Paul and Carol have extensive experience in the creative arts through performing in the Sixth Street Melodrama, teaching in the Kellogg School District, and through their business, Grow Me A Story, LLC. Paul and Carol will help students explore different kinds of creativity and learn tools to cultivate a creative life. They were the Artists in Residence for two yearsat Canyon Elementary School in Cataldo, Idaho, and also at John Mullan Elementary and at Mullan Junior/Senior High School in Mullan, Idaho, helping students explore creativity.
Paul and Carol use five ways to help cultivate the creative life. Throughout the week, students will learn and explore these different activities.
Sowing Seeds
Each day students will free write or draw pictures for a set amount of time for their eyes only. This helps stop the negative thinking and resistance that can stop the creative process. This activity helps create inspiration for future creative endeavors.
Creative Rendezvous
Each day students will have some time to explore some type of creativity on their own. The main goal is to have fun. This may include music, writing, drawing, painting, telling stories or acting things out.
Awareness
Each day students will take a walk for at least twenty minutes to become aware of what is happening around them. We will encourage them to use all five senses to take in the world around them. Then they will share about what they experienced.
The Creator Connection
Students will be encouraged to connect with the spiritual side of creativity by connecting with The Creator, God. We share with the students how the Creator of the Universe wants to connect with them and birth a creation through them. We will discuss how we can stop and listen and let the work be created.
Creative Community
Each day students will spend time sharing with others about what they created, and comment on other's creations.
