Life: Some Assembly Required

creative rendezvous creativity camp garage sale Jun 24, 2024

Carol and I are not getting less busy - we just started a week of Creativity Camp with four kids this week - so it was important for me to find some time last weekend for some time of my own. Working out at the fitness center and mowing lawn don’t really count as a fun creative rendezvous (even though it is time on my own, and I enjoy both activities), so Saturday morning I slipped away with my wagon and my little boy attitude and walked down the street to the neighborhood garage sale.

I had money left in my pocket from the chores I did for Aunt Christy, and wasn’t really looking for anything in particular - the best circumstances for visiting a garage sale. Besides a top hat for the Sixth Street Theater and a nice set of pilsner glasses for use at the next family dinner, I hit the jackpot with a nice wooden potting table. It qualifies as a jackpot because I knew Carol would love it, the price was right, and it required assembly.

Life is so strange sometimes. I was feeling overloaded by “things” but it was helped by adding one more thing - the right thing -  to my schedule. If you’re ever wondering what to get me for a birthday or Christmas present, get me something in a box that says “assembly required.”

Gotta run. Life’s still not getting any less busy. But adding a creative rendezvous to my schedule sure made my weekend seem less hectic.
